Cebu Pacific has inaugurated its first direct flight from Cebu to Osaka, Japan, marking a significant milestone for the Philippines’ aviation connectivity.
The inaugural flight, Flight 5J 5108, took off at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday from Mactan-Cebu International Airport, greeted by a celebratory water cannon salute.
This new route establishes Cebu as the sole direct connection to Japan’s Kansai region, enhancing travel options for both Cebuanos and Japanese tourists.
The direct flight operates four times weekly, providing convenient access to Osaka, renowned for its vibrant culinary scene in Dotonbori and the bustling neon-lit district of Namba.
Osaka, often referred to as “Japan’s Kitchen,” offers Cebuanos the opportunity to explore its rich food culture and urban attractions with greater ease. Conversely, Japanese travelers can now enjoy Cebu’s renowned paradise beaches and idyllic island escapes without the need for layovers.
The launch of this direct service is expected to boost tourism and strengthen economic ties between Cebu and the Kansai region.
Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority highlighted the strategic importance of this route in enhancing Cebu’s status as a key aviation hub in Southeast Asia.
“We are excited to offer a direct connection between Cebu and Osaka, fostering greater cultural and economic exchanges,” a spokesperson for Cebu Pacific said. “This service not only benefits travelers but also supports the growth of tourism and business opportunities in both regions.”
Cebu Pacific’s expansion into the Osaka market aligns with broader efforts to increase international flight options from Cebu, catering to the growing demand for direct travel routes in the region.
