The iconic IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon is making its much-anticipated return to The Mactan Newtown on August 10, 2025, following a renewed partnership between township developer Megaworld and IRONMAN, the world’s leading endurance sports brand.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed to formalize the collaboration, reinforcing Cebu’s growing reputation as one of Asia’s top triathlon destinations.
The ceremony was attended by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan, Congressman Junard “Ahong” Chan, IRONMAN Philippines President and General Manager Princess Galura, and Megaworld Lifestyle Malls First Vice President Graham Coates.
This year’s event is expected to draw more than 2,000 athletes from over 40 countries, alongside thousands of spectators from around the globe.
The race, set against the scenic coastal waters and historic landmarks of Mactan Island, previously earned global acclaim after being named the Best Spectator Race in the World in 2018.
Beyond the competition, IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu is set to deliver a strong economic impact, driving tourism revenues and generating opportunities for hotels, restaurants, transport providers, and local businesses across Lapu-Lapu City and surrounding areas.
The Mactan Newtown continues to evolve as a world-class venue for international sporting events. Megaworld said its commitment to promoting sports, wellness, and tourism aligns with its vision of developing dynamic, lifestyle-driven communities.
With its mix of modern infrastructure and Filipino hospitality, Cebu once again takes center stage in the global sports tourism scene through IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu 2025.
