Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) conducted a full-scale emergency simulation exercise aimed at strengthening airport safety, operational readiness and coordination among emergency responders ahead of the busy travel season.

The exercise, dubbed BEACON2026 or Bohol Emergency Airport Coordination Operations Network 2026, was held on April 24 and involved airport personnel, airline partners, local government units, hospitals and national agencies.

Operated by Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports, BPIA said the biennial drill formed part of its compliance with Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) standards and international aviation safety protocols.

The simulation centered on a mock narrow-body commercial aircraft that encountered a runway excursion upon landing, testing the coordinated response of rescue teams, fire fighting services, medical responders and airport operations personnel.

“Preparedness is at the core of Bohol-Panglao International Airport’s safety and resilience,” BPIA General Manager Aldwin C. Uy said in a statement.

Participating agencies included the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Office of Civil Defense, Provincial Government of Bohol and the Municipal Government of Panglao, along with nearby hospitals and airline partners operating at the airport.

Airport officials said regular flight operations continued without disruption during the exercise, with designated staging and treatment areas selected to minimize the impact on passengers and airport activities.

CAAP BPIA Manager Anghelo B. Ibañez said exercises such as BEACON2026 help ensure the airport remains compliant with global aviation standards while promoting a culture of preparedness and operational excellence.

BPIA, known as the country’s “Green Gateway to the World,” is the Philippines’ 10th busiest airport and one of the key gateways serving Bohol’s tourism industry.
