Scheduled for March 23, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, the event invites everyone to join millions worldwide in the Global Lights Switch Off, a campaign initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) since 2008.
This year, SM Supermalls goes beyond the hour-long lights-out event by hosting a variety of eco-friendly activities designed to engage and inspire mall-goers to make sustainable choices.
Participants can enjoy candlelit dinners at selected restaurants, discover eco-conscious products with Green Retail Finds at the SM Store, and engage in gadget-free entertainment at board game cafes and arts and crafts hubs.
Additionally, customers can explore solar light solutions at ACE Hardware and enjoy beauty and wellness treats at Watsons that promise to “glow up” while the power is down.
Exclusive Earth Hour deals and promotions are available through SM Deals, SM Malls Online, and in-person at SM malls, offering shoppers more ways to support the cause while enjoying their shopping experience.
SM Supermalls is also encouraging a more active and sustainable lifestyle by inviting customers to walk or bike around the mall during Earth Hour.
In partnership with Friends of HOPE, the malls are hosting plastic waste collection booths, urging the public to recycle and also offering e-waste collection bins at Cyberzone and information booths for responsible disposal of electronic waste.
The collective efforts of SM Supermalls, its tenants, and customers during Earth Hour 2023 resulted in significant energy savings, equivalent to the CO2 emissions from charging over 417,940 smartphones.
